Help support our vision for this community farm!
Little Farm began leasing one acre in the Swannanoa River valley in 2020, where we use no-till cultivation methods and organic growing practices. The farm is blessed with extraordinary, fertile floodplain soil that has sustained a thriving business offering wholesale vegetables, cut flowers, and beloved U-Pick days.
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene flooded the farm with eight feet of water, depositing a thick layer of sediment and destroying all residential and utility infrastructure. We have the time sensitive opportunity to secure this vital farmland and transform it from a flood-damaged site into a model of flood-resilient, community-focused agriculture. By securing this land we are not just saving a small farm business, we are preserving a vital community space for healing, nature, and local food sovereignty after the flood.
Our Vision: A Resilient Community Farm
We are launching a campaign to purchase the land to expand Little Farm and establish a unique, multi-faceted space and powerful community asset:
- Farming & Perennial Nursery: Expanding our current flower and food production and establishing a perennial nursery on site.
- Care Farming: Offering horticultural therapy in partnership with a friend and business partner who offers Medicaid-paneled horticulture therapy.
- An Inclusive Agritourism and Camping Destination: Developing a riverside camping and retreat space that offers hands-on farm activities and classes, convenient access to beautiful Western North Carolina, and a safe, welcoming environment dedicated to providing a welcoming experience for LGBTQ and BIPOC visitors.
